The New Year saw us building internal studding
throughout to allow the electricians and plumbers in for their first fix. The
change in the feel of the building is dramatic as walls now define the bedrooms
within the first floor space which looked and sounded like a medieval tithebarn
before.
We have built the studwork from 3x2 timber and have screwed 1/2 inch plyboard to one side giving it greater strength and rigidity than using plasterboard only. After first fix is completed, we will cover the open sides with plasterboard, drill 75mm holes into each void through the ply and have them injected with Warmcel. The ply will then be covered with plasterboard and all surfaces skimmed. This construction should produce strong, quiet, airtight, smooth walls and give solid fixing for wardrobes and shelves.
Smart Central Vacuum Systems delivered the installation kit. The unit is a model P400+C, which takes up very little space in the utility room.
We agreed the final MVHR design with Johnson and Starley so that may be ordered and fitted in February. We have chosen a system based upon a single large unit rather than 2 smaller units. An additional extractor fan will be installed over the cooker. This approach minimises the pipe runs, but we lose the heat from the air exhausted by the cooker fan.
A few more Cat 6 and CT100 cables have been installed for
CCTV security cameras which will be installed in summer when the cedar cladding
is fixed to the underside of the eaves. |
